Toledo Pass: What is included?

With the Toledo Pass you can visit 7 of the most fascinating monuments in the City of Three Cultures. Each monument is included once - you decide the order.

  • Iglesia de Santo ToméThe church of Santo Tomé is home to El Greco's most important work: „El Entierro del Señor de Orgaz“ (The Burial of Count Orgaz) from 1586. The large-format painting is considered one of the most important masterpieces of Spanish painting and is the main destination for many visitors to Toledo.
  • Sinagoga Santa María la Blanca: Built in the 12th century, the synagogue is one of the oldest surviving synagogues in Europe. The building combines Moorish architecture with Jewish history and symbolizes the peaceful coexistence of the three cultures like no other building in Toledo.
  • Monasterio San Juan de los ReyesThe Franciscan monastery, built in the 15th century by the Catholic Monarchs Isabella and Ferdinand, is a masterpiece of Spanish Gothic architecture. The two-storey cloister and the exterior façade, on which the chains of liberated Christian prisoners still hang, are particularly impressive.
  • Mezquita Cristo de la LuzThe small mosque from 999 AD is one of the best-preserved Moorish buildings on the entire Iberian Peninsula. The vaulting of the interior with nine different domes demonstrates the high level of Islamic architecture in medieval Toledo.
  • Iglesia de los Jesuitas - San IldefonsoThe baroque Jesuit church towers over the old town of Toledo with its two striking towers. From the roof terrace level, it offers one of the best panoramic views over the rooftops of the city and the meandering Tagus - a viewpoint that is worth the visit alone.
  • Real Colegio de Doncellas NoblesThe former aristocratic boarding school is one of Toledo's lesser-known, but all the more authentic sights. The 16th century complex offers a rare insight into the educational and aristocratic culture of Habsburg Spain.
  • Iglesia del SalvadorThe Church del Salvador was built on the foundations of a Visigothic cathedral, which was later converted into a mosque. The preserved remains of all three building phases - Visigothic, Moorish and Christian - make it a unique testimony to Toledo's eventful history.

Not included: Toledo Cathedral (Catedral Primada Santa María de Toledo) is not included in the Toledo Pass. A separate ticket is required to visit the cathedral.

About Toledo

Toledo Pass: View of the city

Toledo lies on a rocky plateau surrounded on three sides by the River Tagus - a natural fortress that has shaped the city since ancient times. From the viewing platform of the Parador, you have a view of a cityscape that has hardly changed in centuries: narrow streets, towering church towers and the mighty Alcázar at the highest point. The entire old town has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1986.

What makes Toledo unique, however, is its history as a city of three cultures. For centuries, Christians, Muslims and Jews lived here together and left behind a unique architectural heritage. Mosques were converted into churches, synagogues survived the Reconquista and Moorish ornamentation can still be found today in Christian cathedrals and monasteries. The painter El Greco, who made Toledo his adopted home, immortalized this city skyline in his works, which still hang where he once created them.

Toledo is located just 75 kilometers south of Madrid and can be easily reached by high-speed train in around 30 minutes - ideal for a day trip, but also suitable for a short overnight stay. The old town is compact and can be explored on foot, although there are some steep alleyways and cobbled streets. The best time to visit is spring (March to May) or early fall (September and October), as the temperatures are mild, the light is warm and the number of visitors is still manageable. In midsummer, Toledo can get very hot, with temperatures of over 40 degrees Celsius.

Note: The famous Toledo Cathedral (Catedral Primada) is one of the most important Gothic churches in Spain - however, it is not included in the Toledo Pass. A separate ticket is required to visit the cathedral.
